Microchimerism refers to cells that many [if not all] individuals harbor that have their origins in other genetically distinct individuals.
These cells obtained from the mother, or cells the mother obtained from her fetus, persist in the individual for decades or their whole life to become an integral part of the cellular fabric of that individual.
Cancer or autoimmunity or even a healing potential may be a result of these 'alien' cells that reside in our bodies.
