Krill Oil
Krill oil - Omega-3
Overview
Krill oil consists of three components:
(1) omega-3 essential fatty acids that are similar to those of fish oil [~30% EPA/DHA]
(2) omega-3 essential fatty acids that are attached (conjugated) to phospholipids [~40% phospholipids], mainly phosphatidylcholine (often referred to as marine lecithin) and
(3) astaxanthin, a powerful red - orange carotenoid antioxidant that provides the red colour of krill oil
Benefits of Krill Oil
Fight inflammation, powerful antioxidant
Inflammation
Studies have been down on the dampening effect on inflammation by krill oil and this may be of benefit in inflammatory joint disease such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis but also in any disease state where inflammation plays a significant role in the underlying mechanism of disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and neurological problems such as Alzheimer's disease.
Cholesterol
Studies have also shown a lowering of blood lipids with the use of krill oil
Essential Fatty Acid Metabolism
Producing powerful eicosanoids
