The study of nutrition is inextricably linked to molecular biology, biochemistry and the genetic makeup of all animals. Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes occurring at the cellular and molecular level in all living organisms. It involves the creation or storage of energy and is involved in the structure and function of cellular components, including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, hormones, cytokines, cell signalling molecules and numerous other bioactive molecules.
